Look out below! Way below. South America, Rio de Janeiro. With childhood friend Allen Brooks and family running the operation, I opened up a Joey Ramone Place punk rock merch store. In planning since July '08, it's finally open for business. 20% of anything I make goes to charities for children in the favelas (slums). Grand Opening scheduled for April, the soft opening was today. COME ON DOWN!
I'll post more info - address, ph. #, photos, etc.- real soon. I just got the word they opened the doors today, and wanted to let you know.

mickey, congrats on getting it open! I know that Joey is so proud of you. This store is gonna make so many people psyched for the ramones in a new way. thanks for letting us know

Wow, gongralutions of getting project to this point.
I remember you or someone else telling a bit of this kind project in past.
As Chewie said, this is something of what Joey is really proud of you making. All bureaucracy etc. gotta be pretty different when compared to the USA, and I bet all those official papers took time to get finished. You, Allen and his family had lot to do.

The Favela charity idea it's just GREAT!!!
Another reason to go to Rio, beer, heat, thongs and a Joey store, if that's not heaven...

Thanks for the encouraging words and enthusiasm. Yeah, been working on this for years, and you're right Jari, the beaurocracy, and complications of trying to open a business so far away was a LOT of work. Yes, we've been very busy.
